Hailing from Kuopio, Finland, Jess And The Ancient Ones have released an EP Astral Sabbat, only nine months after their debut CD.

Astral Sabbat explores the boundaries of psychedelic rock, prog rock, occult rock and retro rock. Jess And The Ancient Ones mostly focuses on the lead singer Jess, with her lovely bluesy voice.

The EP Astral Sabbat contains three tracks. The opening track “Astral Sabbat” is mostly rooted in the occult rock, and sounds a bit similar to Sabbath Assembly.

The second track is quite a surprise: Jess And The Ancient Ones covered “Long And Lonesome Road”, originally performed by Shocking Blue in 1969. Kudos to Jess And The Ancient Ones for keeping the sixties groove to the track, and adding a n extraterrestrial cosmic layer to the track.

The final track of the EP Astral Sabbat is the almost 15-minute-long “More Than Living”. Here, Jess And The Ancient Ones use a more progrock-inspired sound. References to Pink Floyd and even Anathema and Opeth can be heard in this track.

If you love the vibe of the sixties, make sure to check out Astral Sabbat by Jess And The Ancient Ones – you might be surprised at how fresh retro rock can sound.
